Friends of Hopewell Quarry

About us

The Friends of Hopewell Quarry, Inc. (FOHQ) is a 501 c 3 charitable organization. The mission of the FOHQ is to preserve the natural beauty of the Hopewell Quarry and to operate it as a public recreational resource.

The FOHQ was formed in 2016 and worked diligently to secure loans, donations and a grant from Green Acres. Purchased by FOHQ in August 2021, the Hopewell Quarry is now protected open space.

Surrounded by rock cliffs in a park-like setting, the Hopewell Quarry is one of Mercer County's best-kept secrets. The secluded splendor in clean, fresh air, unspoiled by progress, creates a relaxing atmosphere for you to enjoy.

Open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, the Hopewell Quarry is a public recreational resource, offering both seasonal and day passes.

Work Ahead

Our work is far from finished. As part FOHQ’s master plan, we need to address some important, and in some cases urgent, upgrade requirements. We need to replace the septic system, which is currently not operational. The kitchen and bathrooms need major repairs and renovations. We are keen to improve the Quarry’s accessibility to our disabled guests, with additional handrails, sidewalks and ramps. The parking lot needs new road base and the out-buildings need various repairs and improvements. These projects add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars, and are nowhere near being covered by the anticipated regular operating revenue.

There is still a lot of work to do. FOHQ is asking members and all interested supporters to please help save the Quarry by making a tax deductible donation. Donate Here.
